We believe that your child’s early years education is one of the most important times in their life. The period of learning for children aged 0 to 5 years is defined as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
This is a very important stage as it helps and supports your child by preparing them for their future learning and successes. From when your child is born their early learning experiences begin and these should be happy, active, exciting, fun, secure; and support their development and care needs.
The EYFS Framework exists to support professionals working in the EYFS to help your child. The latest revised Framework 2014 places a greater emphasis on what you as parents can do to support your child’s learning and development. It sets out:
- The legal welfare requirements that everyone registered to look after children must follow to keep your child safe and promote their welfare.
- The 7 areas of learning and development which guide professionals’ engagement with your child’s play and activities as they learn new skills and knowledge.
- Assessments that will tell you about your child’s progress through the EYFS.
- Expected levels that your child should reach by age 5 – these are called Early Learning Goals.
